As said above, can this happen? Do i need new mounts, axels, ETC.? Also, how much would that cost, cause i don't like FWD :(

Well, the engine sits incorrectly in the bay for efficient rwd setup, so unless you want to use an alltrac tranny and "plug up" the fwd part, you'll have to basically entirely redo your engine bay.

I'm sure it could be done, but I'm even more sure that it'll be a lot more work than it's worth.

Oh good Lord.
For all intents and purposes, NO.
It has been done once.
A guy in Aus put a Lexus V8 in his GrpA ST185.
But it cots ALOT of $$$$$$$$$$.
Probably much more than you have if you are sporting around in a Celica GT.

And it won't work at all with the Alltrac trans. Period.

Heard it would cost less to do a 4WD conversion than a RWD conversion. Toysport does 4WD conversions here in Socal.

Just go buy A 1st 2nd or 3rd gen Celica it would be much cheaper

ok heres how you do it.

1.) open hood.
2.) uncap Radiator
3.) Buy supra
4.) Close rad put down hood

you now have rwd and two turbos.

in all seriousness though......

if I really wanted to try it.... Well I wouldnt for the money it wouldnt be worth it I would have to have a serious addiction to my car.

A rear clip from a alltrac.... put the rear end on the back. You would have to take the motor and make it mounted for rwd... which is not going to be easy with the mounts and where there at.. .but oh well.....

I know over seas the is came with the beams motor which was a 3sge.... which means it will mount up to a 3sgte and its rwd. So you would have to do that plus a custom drive shaft.... I make it sound easy but even if someone ever got it to work... It would prolly never work right... Just my opinion.

I have concidered doing this myself. I almost picked up an alltrac shell, but I don't have space or time or $$.

I would find an alltrac shell and not even try and do it to a fwd celica. That much less you have to worry about.

I would then look into a supra or rwd lexus diff. I hear that an ae86 diff will bolt up, not sure how strong they are though. Might be best to swap the supra axels and hubs so you can run wider wheels in the rear. 17x10.5 will fit back there.

Driveshaft, I would go with an early 90s supra and customize it. Might have to cut it shorter, might fit as is. Gearbox won't be cheap, but if I were to do it, I would either get one from a altezza, a supra 6-speed, or get one from toysport.

You will have to modify the front axels and hubs. May be able to just use supra front hubs.

For engine, to save wiring headache and $$, I would concider the 3s. Just build new mounts, maybe a custom intake manifold. Not sure if you will have to modify the firewall or not. Might concider the camry v6 and adding a turbo or SC. Might have to make a custom intake manifold as well.

This has been done with a 6th gen with the 3s. I think it started as a fwd model though.

A supra 6-speed tranny is just ridiculously priced though it's been used. Good condition ones go for around $5000. Although the tranny is pretty much bulletproof, the gears would be much too tall for a celica to power.

You need to come to Indianapolis. There are currently 3 S13s for sale on the local boards, and i believe 2 S14s.

They are one of the most rugged high performing transmissions you'll see from the factory on a streetcar. Prove otherwise. GEtrag is one heck of a tranny. Just because something is hyped doesn't mean it's NOT awesome ;)

I would have to agree on this one. I have owned both an alltrac and a 85 gt. Stock for stock the 200k gt coul hang as well as the stock alltrac.

I plan on buying a 85 notchback gts someday to do an engine swap on.

I hear the non GT4 5th gens dont have the room for rwd in the chasis. Therefore, I would consider a GT4 shell (good luck) and the powertrain from a 3rd gen celica, or another rwd car. You might be able to make them all fit in the GT4 shell. You'd practically have another car with the look of a GT4...

the one here in pittsburgh .... the guy I know has went through 3 of them. Yes he has alot of money. His car is also over the 1000 hp mark.

I was once in the fort pitt tunnels here in pittsburgh with him....... From 5th to downshifting into 3rd it left tire track everywhere and this was at 80mph.....

Not saying its not completely bulletproof..... But like everything else .... They Break!

so whats the problem with using the alltrac tranny and pluggin up the the front part? is it not as reliable? and all the wiring needed for the tranny is just speedsensor....unless its an automatic (but those aren't even worth it). maybe i'm missing some key factors.

Diff is made so it puts out power to the front and the rear.

If you go through the trouble of making a rwd celica, why not drop all of that weight and make it a good car. Find yourself another gearbox and turn that engine.

c,mon people... lets get innovative here....

Sell your ST,
Buy a GT or GTS
Firewall off the hatch
built a roll cage to stiffen up the frame.
cut out the gastank, floor pan, ect of the trunk.
Have fun sticking any MR2, or Fiero engine and trans setup back there and making a safe fuel cell in your new trunk!

lol ive seen it done in 3 CRX's in my area, More than one person has done the rwd conversion you just only see the video for the lexus v8 swaped one.I remember someone was doing it in his GT-S he was using a ford 9" rear, had a whole geocities sight tracking his progress. if you search you might find the link on google.

haha im not serieous about the mr2 ass swap but from time to time i kick the idea around. like every other swap idea i get lol. Howcome everyone wants to go RWD in there celi? Is the drift craze hiting everyone or just the better platform for drag racing?

I mainly like it because if you do race, you don't get that front wheel spin which i really dislike. Also i like to slide around....in rwd of course.

They're able to handle 900rwhp with an upgraded clutch. That's a pretty damn good tranny if you ask me.
