how many miles does everyone currently have? also, if u have very high mileage, how many probs have you had (wear and tear excluded.)

06-29-2006, 09:55 AM
Chaos has 215k.

Other than normal wear and tear, and rust, she was a Northern car, she has been great.

She needs a whole new suspension though. The Decklid (all coupes have this issue) is bent. New axles, wheel bearings, timing belt... That is about it.

06-29-2006, 11:41 PM
I have 102k.

06-29-2006, 11:46 PM
Just turned 176k today.

I have a bad weld on the rear passenger quarterpanel, my suspension is starting to get a little soft, and the original OEM exhaust from 1993 is broken.

This car has never had anything but scheduled maintanence performed on it.

Other than that, runs perfect, nothing is broken, including air conditioning, decklid is fine, no other serious rust, no dents, nothing leaks, INCLUDING my power steering.

Knock on freaking wood.

06-30-2006, 02:02 AM
191k, just regular maintance, radiator and cv boots so far. Suspension needs to be replaced.

06-30-2006, 02:08 AM

06-30-2006, 02:22 AM
130'000 kilometres on the chassis.

godknowswhat on the engine.

06-30-2006, 05:37 AM
is burning oil ok? as long as you keep oil in it?

06-30-2006, 08:21 AM
Burning a little is ok as long as it's not leaking. And yes to keep oil in the engine.

06-30-2006, 08:45 AM
120-121kish Could go for an oil change.

06-30-2006, 11:25 PM
I believe there's a link out there that has a survey of our common problems and such.

07-01-2006, 06:02 AM
210k on the beast, about 128 on the daily

07-03-2006, 05:05 PM
93500 miles

07-03-2006, 05:10 PM
253000 kilometres, rustued rockers, engine bay gets noisier weekly, engine still pulls like a train & the gearbox still shifts like butter.

Hi There My Gen 5 Has 140.000 Miles On The Clock Runs Very Sweet Full History Stamped Up 118.000 I Had Her Two Years Changed Oil/filter Every 3000 Miles Brakes Allround Clutch And Flywheel Thats It Not Bad For A Nearly 15 Year Old Motor [ Lets Keep Gen 5s Alive ] Sg1.........................

07-04-2006, 02:33 PM
Got 107k miles on the 6th gen and I have wierd problems. You know those trunk and gas door release levers down by your left foot (In USDM versions at least)? Yeah, both of those bastards broke off. So I have a joo rigged system in there now. Basically I cut both of those cables, stripped some of the housing back, and ran 'em through the carpet. Next I drilled small holes in little pieces of plastic and ran the cables through that, then souldered the cables to themselves so I can't pull the plastic off of the cables and voila: Makeshift trunk/gas door release. It looks like ass, but it's functional. So yeah, 107k miles and that's the main example of problems I have that I can think of.

Edit: Oh, and I found metal shavings in my tranny fluid yesterday. :thumbsdow

07-04-2006, 02:42 PM
206k+ On Chassie

120k+ on Engine.

07-04-2006, 04:36 PM
how many miles does everyone currently have? also, if u have very high mileage, how many probs have you had (wear and tear excluded.) I have 160,000 + .....have had no problems, but I've only owned the car for like 5 or 6 weeks , now. The car (GT convert.) appears to have been meticulously maintained (has new brakes/belts/filters/tires) and runs flawlessly (as well as every switch/light/anything working.). Am going to start saving towards a new rear window (or get this one re-sewn) - that's my only gripe is that the threads are coming out in a couple of spots, but not bad enough to leak yet
The car came without the tonneau (Toyota quoted me $1200 for a replacement  :wtf: ), but I had someone on another forum offer to sell me me theirs, and I feel I got a good deal on a "like-new" boot cover for my old '92.

07-04-2006, 06:39 PM
235,xxx miles on body, engine,.... the whole shabangabang
no problems except minor setbacks....

07-04-2006, 06:58 PM
yeah the 5th gen is a good car, just needs competely overhauled once it gets to 200k

i learned that the hard way as some of u remember my horror posts about the 5th gen from hell that was built on a monday

194K on a 92 GTS

*knocking on wood*

It's been a great car so far. Before I bought it (@184K) the timing belt, struts, axles, radiator and alternator were replaced within a year. The previous owner did a great job at maintaining it. Since I've owned it, the sunroof has had problems (only opens and shuts when it's hot outside), and now the sub-oxygen sensor is toast. I do regular maintenance on it and it runs great. It burns a little oil and has some rust spots that are starting to show.. and the leather on the driver's seat is starting to wear a little. Hardly any leaking.

07-04-2006, 11:09 PM
95,000. Wondering about that weird idle, a little oil burn at start up, other than that, the engine runs fine. Passenger side door handle doesn't work, but that's fine with me. Sun damage on the point.

07-07-2006, 11:36 PM
217k miles on GT Convertible. Top needs replaced Toyota wants like ~$3500, passenger side visor broken, suspension worn need new struts, and install poly bushings, when that happens, rear control arms, fix broken ant. gear on power ant., fix interior from prior rear window hole/leaking, power steering hoses, but the motor is rebuiklt and switched to the 5 spd tranny s-53 from auto.

367k miles on wife's '90 ST(body) (120k on engine) - needs body work and new paint, suspension and bushings, rear control arms, power steering hoses, replace engine seals, replace factory radiator with aftermarket all metal. Still gets exceptonal gas mileage of over 35 mpg!

05-13-2007, 03:13 PM
181k. at about 168k i had to replace the clutch. it was the original clutch and it just exploded on me one day, orig. radiator had to replace it, power steering line, shocks, struts, complete brake job, valve cover seal, both axles, and AC conversion/recharge.
thats about it really cant complain the owner before me took car of his shit.

05-13-2007, 10:09 PM
I have 289xxxk on the chassis. The motor is dead at that and the new one will have 200xxx.

Problems I had with the older motor were minimal until it died. That was maily due to the previous owners matianence schedual....I don't think they even know how to pronounce that though.

05-13-2007, 10:29 PM
220k on engine/chassis.

Current problems that I'm aware of some sort of oil leaking from the front passenger side of the engine, A/C does not work, CD player skips(but I'm assuming that's normal for such an old CD player), and the Antenna goes up but doesn't come down.

*knock on wood. :bigthumbu

05-14-2007, 02:57 AM
197,000 on it within the next two days.

I just drove it on a 2 1/2 hour drive to and from Chicago this weekend, along with trips around the city. I drove at 80+ the entire trip and had not one problem. My only complaints are that it leaks and the suspension is on it's way out. I plan on keeping it forever, so I need to baby it until I'm out of school. I get on it a little bit though. ;)

05-14-2007, 02:59 AM
Oh and 34,000 on my 1972.

Confirmed by receipts. The dealership LOVES it. My mechanic here in town gives his thumbs up to the milage. Great car.

I just got back from the gas station. Nearly ten bucks gives it a half tank. It's awesome, plus some rednecks in a NASCAR edition F150 were oohing and aahing over it.

05-14-2007, 08:30 AM
146K on my 92 GT, and still running good. car blows smoke for a few seconds after i start it...rear engine mount failing...and a leaks a few drops of oil

05-14-2007, 09:16 AM
135k, power steering needs fixing. leather interior is absolutely shot.

05-14-2007, 05:16 PM
203k miles.

Same problems i posted last time, nothing new.

Broken exhaust, blown rear struts, and dead swaybar endlinks and center mounts.

Still gets beat on damn near daily, and has made at least 30 drag passes already this season.

05-14-2007, 06:28 PM
holy crap old thread.

Got rid of the GTS, a very wonderfull woman owns it now.

1991 All-trac 150k miles
all 4 rotors
all 4 calipers
a/c leak found and repaired
stock head unit replaced

1992 All-Trac 148k miles

05-14-2007, 07:19 PM
90 gt 171k miles
leaks oil, has an electrical problem, needs struts, system 10 not working. runs good but a bumpy ride with hardly any struts.

05-14-2007, 07:29 PM
how many miles does everyone currently have? also, if u have very high mileage, how many probs have you had (wear and tear excluded.)

90 celica turbo alltrac. 98,xxx miles. :duh:

05-17-2007, 03:56 AM
'91 GT-S with around 225k miles.

Where to begin...lol
-Just put a new radiator in
-needs new front brake rotors
-burns oil FAST
-power steering leaks
-wheel bearings/front axles need replaced
-lots of body dents....lol
-antennae is broken (from the car wash).
-driver's side mirror is missing.
-CF trim on the front is cracked.
-I think the timing belt is about to go.
-its EXTREMELY loud and i dont know why...lol (everything is stock)
-sunroof is broken
-everything in the interior rattles
-sometimes it grinds when i try to start it(starter must be gettin ready to go)

Thats all I can think of right now. I think its time for a new car.

Mr Celica
05-17-2007, 04:27 AM
137,000 miles. runs perfect. replaced front engine mount, replaced all the oil seals, new cap, rotor, wires, plugs, radiator, oil gets changed at least every 3k miles. 2nd clutch in it. paint is ~2 years old. interior is not ripped but losing some color due to sun. everything works on the car as it should. i love these yotes! i also have a 1992 Toyota 4Runner for my winter truck that just hit 200k today when i took it to work. i just recently replaced head gaskets, gas tank, and some other "minor" engine parts. Thing runs new, too bad it only gets 12mpg.. haha

05-17-2007, 07:21 AM
127,xxx and i need a new wheel bearing, thats it.

05-17-2007, 07:24 AM
141K, nothing wrong. I still need to replace cv boot/ axle. This car has been a dream!

05-17-2007, 08:04 PM
296,000 km (185,000 miles). Aside from repeatedly getting hit by other people, major issues have been limited to suspension clunks and a persistent oil leak I can't quite trace.

05-18-2007, 09:19 AM
260k. No big problems so far. Works fine. No rust. Just a few electrical issues.

05-18-2007, 03:18 PM
250k all types of problem but the body and the interior is ok...

05-21-2007, 06:46 AM
196k, almost to 200k, have replaced or fixed pretty much everything on it.

05-22-2007, 06:08 AM

I've touched every nut and bolt on the car.

05-22-2007, 06:29 AM
id say round...hmm...185k would be my best bet...no problems at all...except routine oil change and brake change when needed...other than that, everything is perfect as can be from interior out *Knock on wood*

06-13-2007, 06:22 AM
106000miles just replaced axcel ,clutch, gasline leak, but its 16 years old and was not maintained the best. everything feels good on it now

06-13-2007, 05:07 PM
my 90 ST has 180K....wen i got it, it had a bucking problem (i think it was bc it sat for a long time b4i got it) i replaced the oil,oil filter, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator (off an 89 celica i believe) and jsut cleaned it off and it runs fine now. then i just threw a bottle of fuel injector cleaner in and its mint.

06-14-2007, 04:01 AM
92 GT-R 48750 miles

06-15-2007, 03:31 AM
1990 gt-s: 122,xxx Miles, Minor oil leak, I think from the valve seals, It being a gt-s and me being 17 I have some fun in it, Not a lot though, I am fairly gentle on it compared to my friends, and their cars.

06-15-2007, 03:57 AM
145k-ish miles on my 1990 GT. I'm also 17, and I'm fairly rough on it, but not overly. I'm going to be putting some work into it this summer, new radiator going in tomorrow or Monday (the current one blew out at the mall after I shut off the car due to defective radiator cap).

06-15-2007, 09:10 AM
229000 kms..just had radiator and clutch replaced, needs valve cover gasket, cv joint...not too sure what else I'm too much of a novice to tell myself. Most of this was told to me by others :).

Wish one of you guys lived close so you could diagnose it and then walk me through fixing it up. It runs great but I know some parts are worn and I'd rather replace them before they go while I'm out somewhere.

06-16-2007, 01:34 AM
My GT4 is JDM so my 'mileage' is in KMs. I'm currently doing 97,XXX.

06-17-2007, 07:00 AM
90 GT - 193K. Runs pretty strong. Has had a bunch of parts replaced at about 140K.
