American Torque. Everyone is so misguided in thinking HP is what wrocks. WRONG!!!

Torque is what makes the tires go round and round. ;)

HP is the ability to do work (torque) over time ;)

Me 2, and the answer is, you need both if your looking to get up and go, and keep going.

Two extremes. A big ol Diesel truck, and a rev happy S2000.

Actually, it's an LS7 :wiggle: . 7-litre, factory rated at 505hp and 470 ft/lbs. The whole package is...absolutely beautiful IMO. $65-73,000 depending on what you want in/on it.

ls7 specs (http://www.corvettemuseum.com/specs/2006/LS7.shtml)

The LS7's specifications are significant for a production engine:

505 horsepower @ 6200 rpm
475 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4800 rpm
7000-rpm redline
Unique engine block with larger 104.8-mm (4.125-inch) bores and pressed-in cylinder liners
Forged steel crankshaft with 101.6-mm (4-inch) stroke
Titanium connecting rods
Cast aluminum flat-top pistons
Racing-derived CNC-ported aluminum cylinder heads with titanium intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves
Dry-sump oiling system
11.0:1 compression ratio
Camshaft with 15-mm (.591-inch) lift
Hydroformed exhaust headers with unique "quad flow" collector flanges.

hoochie wahwah!

I was surprised to find that Lingenfelter already offers packages for the LS7. They offer a camshaft upgrade that ups the power to 616 hp and a twin-turbo package that provides  800hp!!! Honestly though, if you want to maintain the balance in the car and corner driveability, I think the latter would be a tad much-

The Benz engine comes in cars that cost $170k or more - you could get 2 Z06's and an Elise for that price. The Audi engine only comes in a 4-door luxury sedan. The Z06 also outhandles any of the models that carry either of those engines.

You shouldn't knock the Z06... The C6 Z06 is dominating SS, the same class that the Elise is in. :P

troof

and the benz engine is a v12 that has to be turboed to make that 600hp

toss a twin turbo on a vette and your making over 800hp.

vette > benz

The Z06 is one of the few domestic cars that really impress me. The Mustang GT500 on the other hand...

Well... but look at the torque on the benz....

no matter, you can twin turbo the z06 from lingenfelter (or DIY) and smoke the almighty SHIT out that benz in both horsepower AND torque. All for less money. I'm too lazy and don't have the time right now but somebody should power-weight ratio both cars from factory specs and see how close they are...that benz is going to be heavy as hell. There is no factory car out there right now that will put shame to the z06, especially when you throw the dollar figures in the equation

That is about right, the Z06 is probably the best performance for value... except maybe an Elise :)
