I've been viewing this site has will as Celispeed for about a month now trying to decide what car would be better for me (2nd gen Probe GT, 2nd gen Acura Integra or the 5th gen Celica) I decided to go with the celica. I live in Minnesota and I've had the car for a two days now. I plan to put on a 3sge head and turbo it ( from what I've read evrybody hate that Idea) but of the reason I chose a celica was because it's somethiing that not everybody has. I like to be different (not to the extreme). right now the car needs new brakes (easy). It has a newer engine that now has 100,000 miles on it, new clutch 6000 miles on it and new halfshafts all for $750 delivered to my door.

I was about to say you made the wrong decision... but $750 is a great deal.

Congrats on the purchase, and take it from an ex-celispeed member, that place doesn't hold a candle to here in any way whatsoever.

Welcome. :)

why do think it would have been a bad decision?

Welcome aboard. So you are wanting to make a 5sgte then? I do not think anyone on this board has built one yet, but there are lots of discussions on the subject.

Much as it pains me to say it, the second gen Integra, at least in my opinion, is a better car.

But, it doesn't have the option of swapping a 3sgte in it for normal people. :p

What year range is that for the integra? 1990ish? Btw, whats your opinoin on why you think its a better car?

Second Generation is from 1990-1993, ironically just like the 5th gen celica.

Anyways, i've driven a couple. The engine is smoother, is a much quicker feeling car, and the handling is great. It does feel a little less stable, but i think that's just because they don't weigh as much. They're lower, stock, and that's quite a bit more entertaining to me, and visibility is better. Even the base "RS" model is decently quick and has no problem revving to 7200rpms. I drove a 1992 GS-R with the 1.7litre vtech, and that thing was awesome.

I'm still idly on the lookout for one. There's one for sale around me with a GSR swap done on it, and that bastard will FLY.

I do not know if they're as reliable as a well cared for 5th gen, but the GS-R that i drove had 190k on it, and it still felt great.

Ya i everyone that i know that has driven an Integra says there really quick. I would think about getting one, but EVERYONE has a Acurca/Honda. Also there are really rare where i live, i never see any, but on the west coast its rediclous how many there are.

Welcome aboard! The reason i got my celica was also for its unique appearance and the fact that its not as common as the 90-93 integras. They are lighter and more nimble but do they have power lumbar support? I live in the west coast and we're swarmed with integras.

Ah, that makes more sense, then... There's not too many left out here because they all rusted to pieces. :p

I don't really know about the power lumbar support, though... I don't like power seats or anything like that. I do like power locks and windows... but i don't really care that much.

That was the main reason I got mine. I integra and civics evertime I blink my eyes. I like to be different and I've seen few celicas here (Minnesota). Plus I really hate interference engines. Had a friend who got the head and timing assemble done (eclipse) two month later needed to replace it all again, not cheap at all. That made me sell my eclipse and don't regret it at all.

Hahaha, well that's a DSM for ya. :hehe:

Anyways. So, the integras despite having a lower ground clearance still have a higher roofline than the celicas. A higher vertical profile will contriute to the "less stable" feel obviously. I had a 5th gen celi and my old roommate had a 2nd gen teggi, and we compared side by side.
