Hello, i am located in jamaica. Getting front end parts for my st205 is a reaaaaaaal pain. I have seriously been contemplating converting from Superstrut to macpherson. My question is this what is invlolved in doin this conversion? what is the recommended procedure(s) and also, which strut should i change to? some one suggested the JZA80 since the braking system is similar. please impart as much info as possible(technical and nontechnical). It is frustrating me so much im thinking of getting an MR2 Turbo... but i love this car and i'd never feel fulflled in a MR2... so please help a brother out :wavesad:

Somewhere I read that the superstrut suspension is 100% replaceable with a McPherson one using the parts from a McP ST205.

Hope these links work

To my immediate knowledge ST205 Was the designation to GT4's only. And All ST205 GT4's Had Superstrut Suspension.

But there was never a road version of the MacPherson ST205, was there?

Apart from the rally cars.

The Rally 205 is the only MacPhereson strutted car I ever heard of. I have heard of fwd 20x celicas converting to SS. I bet you can use the reverse method they use.

You may need a fwd celica subframe, and struts. I do not think you will need to change your hubs out, but I am not sure.

Quite the opposite... as far as I know (and I could be wrong) all 205 where MacPherson equipped, only a small number of 205 came with the SS suspension

as far as i am awear all GT4 ST205 came with the SS, i have never seen or heard of a Road version of a Macpherson ST205.

The Hubs would have to be changed as the Macpherson Version only use one ball joint on to connect the lower arm to the (hub / front axle)

where the SS use 2 ball joints. 1 for control arm and bannana arm.

plus it means that you can get rid of those crappy shocks, that are becoming harder to find.
I got a friend to call TEIN Europe asking for a set of the super street Tein Suspension for the ST205 and they will not have any until september.

and from what i can find on the internet D1, and a couple of others seem to have stop manufacturing the shock.
all i could get was a 2nd set of TRDs from japan for 1000 euros which i was not going to pay for.

so this means you will lose those awesome 4 point Cals and the big brakes at the front.

im looking into it a bit futher.

Im thinking of the Macpherson front setup of a ST202 and K-sport Big Brakes Kit for the ST202. so i will still have simlar stopping power.

ill keep you all upto date with the progress.
