240 is a better drivers car than the Z though.

Not to mention trying to do ANYTHING under the hoold of that Z.

I love the 300zs but damn they are expensive, and a bitch to work on (expensive to work on I meant).

And theyre heavy mother fuckers. DAMN theyre heavy for their size. What was Nissan thinking?

I dont think Id trade Azzy. You cant feasibly swap a skyline motor into a Z. You can into your car. Id stick with it, in the end you will have a better drivers car than a z.

Keep progress with us tho Dark Desire. I know you have some paint work scheduled for it. No doubt.

Nice, though I too share some of the communities trepidation regarding the nature of the mechanism through which gear ratios are to be altered...especially if any driving is to be undertaken in an ambitious or sporting manner...however, if said automobile is to be used for more of a relaxing means of transportation, then may I congratulate you on the serendipidy of your acquisition of a fine vehicle.

(Sorry, just watched Sin City again...)

Z was my dream car ever since I got into cars....so its a big decision for me. I know the 240 would outhandle that beast any day, and I do think the 240 is damn sexy, al I gotta do is get the oem skirts lip and valence and she would be queen. But that Z....of how she's haunted my dreams for so long. I want both. BTW, waiting on the call back from this dude, but I might have a 3rd gen celi for 200 bucks

thanks all, like Azzazzyn said. I have drempt of having a Z for a long time now.....either way right now she's my daily driver, gonna repaint her of course (thinking the Azure blue) and probabily a j-spec front piece and the kaminari spoiler but that's about it exterior most of what im gonna do to this is performance wise. When I'm done she's gonna be a beast. Granted shes a auto but like i said i can change that, but i also know a number of autos that can kick a**.

just an fyi to further the auto arguement. The auto Z is faster than the manual :) Nissan got all its numbers from 1/4 to 0-60 from an auto alos, without fuel cut, the auto can hit 209 mph. Thats all turbo though, the n/a i'm not sure about.

j alos, without fuel cut, the auto can hit 209 mph. That one I would have to see.....

Autos are great for drag racing, but for driving, they're no fun, and on any type of road course, a manual is better [forget about paddle shifters and such, we're not talking Ferraris here].
But, like you said, there's always the manual swap.
I plan to do it on my truck one of these days...

Rob, hell yeah they're a PITA to work on.
If you think a Alltrac or MR2 is bad......
OUCH.

the one i drove had no2 and methanol injection...firey combo that i never got to feel. I will in his v-8 280 though. coming soon...hehe (he currently has the injection system on his straight 6 280 pushing somewhere around 300 hp w/o spray(s)). I drove that one...it be quick, turbo kicks in at at 2300 and boosts all the way through. He just recently bumped it up form 9 psi to 12 though, haven't driven that yet.

I bet you mean 209kph, or 130mph... That seems about right for the N/A version...

Anyhow, congrats on the Z. I love the VG30, even more than the RB26 (even though the RB is a better racing motor all up). My current dream project: 300SX TT. Or, an S13 coupe with the VG30DETT. Talk about a highway torque cruiser.

Azzazzyn

i was referring to the TT model, the n/a has 222 hp, and its fuel cutoff is 155, don't know what it could reach without it, I also never saidit would do it quick, but it would get to 209 eventually. again, thats the tt

alltracman78
05-10-2006, 02:45 AM
Do you have any clue how fast 209 mph is?
The TT Supra won't hit that stock.
I REALLY don't see the TTZ doing it either.
Maybe 180.

I could be wrong, and probably am, I do remember reading without fuel cut the car can hit 209

Gorgeous. My friend has a 1985 300ZX. It's the N/A VG30. Pretty quick but the Celica is still faster.

I could be wrong, and probably am, I do remember reading without fuel cut the car can hit 209

Like I said, I bet that's in kph. Seriously, a Porsche Cayman S weighs less, has more power, and an extra gear and it'll only hit 171mph. I bet the TTZ is only capable of about 160-165 without the fuel cutoff. That's still very fast, but nowhere near 200. Not even a 500hp Z06 will do 200.

However, like I said, the N/A Z (with 222hp) should be more than capable of attaining 209kph (or 130mph).

Or, perhaps they mean that the gearing would allow it, if there was enough power to overcome the wind resistance (though I doubt the car's 4speed auto or 5speed manual could be THAT high).

Think of it this way, for most cars, it would require approximately 450hp to overcome wind and driveline drag at 180mph. That means that at 180mph it takes 450hp just to keep the car moving at that speed. If you want to continue accelerating, you need more power on top of that.
