It can, and has been done.

Common? No... probably the most common in the 1st gen is the 22re, and then turbo that to make a 22rte.

The 3gte is more common than the 3sgte though, in celicas before 1976.

You can swap a ton of stuff in the first gens. I've seen SR20DET, various Honda motors, chevy small blocks, 22re, 3sgte, 1jzgte, 5mge, 7mgte, to name a few.

You mean 3tgte?

It can be done, but it will be a pain in the ass to do it. You'll need the bellhousing of a 2se from the jdm 3rd gen, you'll need a custom intake manifold because the throtle body is on the wrong side, and custom mounts. Past that, I honestly can't help you besides giving you this (http://www.classic-celica.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=3611&sid=56bae2f5d4e2e7e22bf610808e44b851) as reference.

Yes, that's what i meant, my bad. Unless i'm completely off-base, it's easier to do in the 1976-1977...

For some reason, it's almost impossible to get a 1jz into a 1974 for whatever reason, but much easier to get it into a 1977... i honestly don't know exactly what the difference is though.

The hood length is the difference. The 75-77 engine bays are longer (hence how I'm able to shoehorn a 7m into Katherine). That's why you rarely see an I-6 put into a pre-75.

Ah ok... i wouldn't have thought it was that simple of an answer. Thanks man. :)

Do it, I want to come see it. That would be a sweet swap. BTW: I have a 2nd gen 3sgte in Knoxville, that needs a rebuild (maybe new block) for cheap. :D

Also, Toysport offers rwd packages and rwd gearboxes for the 3sgte. You might be able to get a handful of bolt-on items.

Might find a better gearbox for your power goals.

Thanks man. :)

De nada. Glad to help :bigthumbu

I think the 2se bellhousing is supposed to go onto a w58 transmission, and the w58 has been proven to be very stout at taking power.

Sorry, I meant gear ratios.
