Im looking for a 6th gen and there is one within my reach but it has the 1.8L 7afe. its a 95 stick too. But from previous know how the 4afe was not much to deal with i was wondering if the 94-99 ST celicas where a bad choice? should i wait/ drive longer to obtain a GT? with the good ol 5sfe?

That's something only you can answer. If I were in your position, I'd definately wait for the gt for the low end torque and the ease of a 3s swap if I got bored with the stock horsepower. On the other hand, the st is a lot lighter if you wanted a good starting platform.

All depends I guess.

See thats what im torn against. CAn somebody with a 94-99 st tell me how it is? possible to turbo charge or about the same $$ as a 5sfe? As long as i have the ability to throw a 3sgte in there i dont think ishould worrie much

The 7afe is a nice economy engine. It is not as torquey as a 5sfe, but that very well could be the -.4 displacement. You can turbo the 7a and get about 180whp-200whp. If you rebuild it you can probably get more.

If you are looking for a fun car for cruising and dont really plan on swapping then it would probably be fine for you. If your looking for a project and want it to be fast, then I would suggest waiting for exactly what you want.
