01-12-2005, 11:03 AM
update for you hungry lot

i prepped the block, rods and pistons ready for the shop to treat and fit them up.

whats still to come?
headgasket, still havn't ordered it, but will only take a few days to get ehre.
arp studs&bolts
and a few misc things to get the engine back together

I deffinately won't be putting the block together now, i was thinking about it, but the ARP gear won't let me do it, since they all have to be aligned hone... which is something which i can't do at home.

stay tuned, the good stuff starts soon :)

BTW: SOMEONE FIND ME A BLOODY ST205 GEARBOX ALREADY! oh, and a meaty clutch to suit :woot:

01-12-2005, 12:35 PM
man, if i found a 205 box, id keep it! :)

Dropped the bottom end into the machinist today. He had a closer look at the rod journal, and reckons it'll polish out. He also had a look at the rod, and reckons i was fairly close to spinning that bearing, due to the polished type nature of it.

He hasn't done the head yet, as i had thought. But ah well.

Picked up the Arp Headstuds+Flywheel bolts... and re-ordered the arp rod and main bolts.

And the headgasket has been shipped COD. So should see it early next week.
Went with the Cometic MLS headgasket, 1mm thick. Which should hopefully keep my compression up with the 8.5:1 pistons.

And thats it.

01-14-2005, 07:22 AM
And today, i received my MHG.

Cometic 1mm MLS

I went and matched it up with the stock 3s-gte headgasket i have here, and its perfect. The Cometic actually has one extra coolant hole then the stock one. And they are both approximately the same width.

nice :) so do u have most of the gear now?

01-14-2005, 09:51 AM
Only things to come...

Rod+Main bolts (monday)
Bearings (when the measurements are done, ill get them...)

And a few misc parts, which arn't worth mentioning.

i know this is probably a stupid question, but will the 3sgte pistons fit in the 5sfe block? I have heard they r same block or something? atm im considering a 5sfte project but it is unlikely even if i do go through with it that i will start off with forged internals :(

01-17-2005, 09:05 PM
arp rod and main studs turned up yesturday. Dropped them off to the machinst.

Had a look at my dipped block and head, they are looking smick :D
So that leaves only bearings to turn up, and then its on.

In the meantime, i got some steering rack boots, to replace the shagged ones on my car. As well as pricing a Excedy 5 puck sprung centre clutch.... at $720, i reckon i can do better then that. I gotta find me a decent low k gearbox before i start to worry about clutch.

01-17-2005, 10:22 PM
5 puck spring centre clutch? What kind of power are u going for? that sounds a little extreme

01-18-2005, 05:52 AM
from memory u goign for like 300 odd hp @ all fours...man he got arias pistons this equals...big horsepower later to come...

But yeah give direct clutch a call man..there on the north side of brisy but good priced and will make to order...the place looks doggy and small but they know there shit a make LOTSSSSSS of race and performance street clutches so yeah....(07) 3862 2680 i think is there number....

01-18-2005, 06:29 AM
my power goals always have been 200awkw.. but with the strengthened bottom end, ill be expecting 300awkw dependant on turbo.

ill give direct clutch a call.

01-18-2005, 07:22 AM
300awkw ok i understand now :D

01-20-2005, 04:49 AM
Woot! Thanks lance for that serco reference
got my MHG today
its the same as yours so i don't need to post pics up heheh

I highly recommed serco, very fast and good service. hope to buy more stuff off them soon

01-20-2005, 07:19 AM
nice, glad it help charwie.

So, i went and ordered my new clutch. I went with the exedy clutch, $710. Expensive yes, but its a kit and im garunteed that it'll work nicely. Just means i have to relearn how to drive a car again, but can't be that difficult surely.

Also, i went and visited the machining place, the block should be ready to go by thursday next week. They are behind schdule, but it can't be helped, delays are always expected. Running cost, ~$1300.... hell expensive, but cheaper then doing it myself.
