Ok, my 90 GT-S (5s-fe) just fried it's 3rd alternator in 1 year. this time the hot wire to the battery was scorched and covered with carbon. There must be some underlying cause for this electrical nightmare, I just don't know where the failure is! any help is greatly appriciated.

What brand alt are you using?
What is the condition of the battery terminals?
How about the alt connections?
What about the grounds?
Underside of the fusebox?
Have you blown the 100 amp fuse?

another good question is how old is the battery and what kind of battery is it?

Also what type of upgrades or additional items do you have to your electrical system (IE stereo, amps, aftermarket light, interior disco balls, whatever)?

the 100 amp fuze blew when alternator 1 failed, but hasn't since. terminals are in good shape and it is an interstate battery, about 7 months old. alternator 1 was the oem factory alternator, the rest I am not sure about. the're rebuilt alternators coming out of pittsburg somewhere.
as for aftermarket electrical devices, the only thing I've installed is a new sony CD player, I think it has some kind of 32w pre amp or something. my fuzes (and underside of the box) seem fine.
