I have all season (junk) tires and my current job doesn't allow me enough spending money to upgrade too much. I need something better than I have right now so I'm looking for some cheap snow tires. (yes I know "you get what you pay for"). But something to get me by is what I need..

I need them especially before the ONeals rallycross. I think I'd just be wasting my time with the tires I have now.

Discount tire direct has these:
Hankook W401
Premium Winter Touring
P175/70R-14 84S W ****$210.00 SHIPPED*****

And I found some on ebay:
"Power King Plus" never heard of them.
175 70 14 **** ~$160+- SHIPPED ****

I'm leaning towards the first ones..

Any suggestions? Everyone's out of winter tires around here. VIP, Sullivan, Tire Warehouse, etc

Well, they look like rubber to me....
But I'm not a tire expert, you might want to talk to someone else on this....

I'm in AZ.. no snow tires here...

BUT.. on our 626, we have some BFG's.. haven't had any problem with them during monsoon season. Great wear, quiet, and if I may say, quite excellent traction in water.

water traction and snow traction are two TOTALLY different things...

You've tried tirerack.com, right? I can usually get them cheaper at tirerack with shipping included than anywhere else.

Those second ones look horrible. I'd stay away from them.

I'll have to agree that blizzaks own, but really any snow tire is gonna blow away even the best all-season tires out there. As long as you dont run em too long on dry pavement you should be fine.

Better yet would be to pick up a set of stock rims or steelies for winter and run a dedicated winter setup. That way you dont need ot have them mounted and unmounted from the rim, just the vehicle.

Snow tires and all season are completely different. I'm sure you guys know this but in RallyX (which is what this is for) you have a major disadvantage if you're running all seasons.

And actually Jeremy, that's really cheap for snow tires. REALLY cheap. that's only 44 bucks per tire. all the other junk is just tire stems and stuff. actually.. now that i think about it i'm going to see if i can get that shit through napa.

Oh and yes I tried tire rack. they're almost more expensive than discount tire direct.

I believe you have answered your own question? You stated that you have a major disadvantage with all seasons in RallyX, if thats what your tires are for go with the Winters.

P.s. I have all seasons for the winter (just cause im too lazy/too cheap to change them to winters) and the all seasons are fine. With winters nowadays, theres maybe 5-6 major snowfalls, I just drive extra careful when theres snow on the ground, and you basically dont have a first gear.

Anyways, good luck with your decison, 44usd per tire is an excellent deal, but personally I dont feel that winter tires are that necessary.

but like she said. its rallyx. She'll be sitting on the side swapping tires at the rallyx meets like all the cool people.

Oh, hell.
I thought that was per tire... [$210]
That's not bad at all....

Cheaper than what I'm used to....
Hopefully I'll have a set of wheels for snow tires soon...
