Finally started her up tonight. Took awhile for the lifter tap to go away, but once it did it sounded great! I took her out for her first drive since August and started the engine break-in process. Right now she's resting in the garage getting her oil changed for the next round of driving. I don't know how much I'll be sleeping tonight... :driving:

Congrats. The HLA tick almost always goes away quickly. It's such a common problem with that car. I find that changing the oil a lot helps, as does finding the right weight of oil.

ya.. one of my ex's had an miata that I did some work on. Does seem that the ticking is a bit excessive in that engine at times, but as soon as your change your oil, its all good.

Oh, it doesn't tick anymore :) On the old engine it only ticked for the first minute at startup, and then went away. Here it was really loud and lasted for 15-20min. I guess it was cause it was a fresh engine, no oil circulated yet.

Yeah, I swapped a lower mileage 1.8 in my car and it did the same thing. It ticked until it was fully up to temp, then it stopped. Now it just does it for a few seconds at startup.

Hey Roman, good job on the engine rebuild. I am glad it went without a hitch and the lifter noise went away. I am looking foward to seeing you again this year and cashing in on more of your photog skills. My cars never looked so good. :D
