I came across this. Its 25-125 mph run. Is it just me or does that look really freaking fast! Guy there claims its a gti 2.0. Any input? That setup has to be putting out some serious numbers.....How much work would it take to turn a 3sge into a engine like this?

Looks right.. but it definately pulls better in the upper RPM's than most 3S CT turbo equipped cars. I think thats because of the CT running out of breath, I just think its due to the different turbo on there the way it looks like it pulls. I would like to know which turbo they put on it, but otherwise it looks right.

I'm not going to throw the bs flag on this, but it does seem curious that he has a stock toyota boost gauge. Why wire up the stock when aftermarket would be easier/better?

Thats a voltmeter... BTW, that Celi has the TEMS system... cool...!!! :D

To turbo the 3S you would practically need the same things you would for a turbo 5S except that its easier cause the GTE parts bolt right up.

BTW, the GTi is bloody fast, the NADM GT/GT-S dont compare... I had both and difference is from the earth up

Errr... big brother factor or the americans market teaching Toyota "we dont want fast cars, we want fuel efficient cars"?

Its always been something I've thought about; the U.S. goverment acting as your or big bro or your dad, taking care of people because he thinks they are not smart enough to do it themselves.
I mean for instance, it's ridiculous to oblige people who sale coffee to put a warning on the cup reading "Warning: Content may be hot". FFS... you are buying coffee, it IS supposed to be hot, what do you expect? dang.

I dunno... its just me wondering

I was wondering the same. sounds nice.

America doesn't get quick japanese imports because america doesn't make money on them.. they sell american muscle so they get the money.

Stupid warnings are do to stupid people. We have to put warnings on coffee because people goto McD's spill coffee on themselves, then sue cos it's too hot. Americans are sue happy. Anything for a quick buck. I would have liked to seen an ooutside view as he accelled thou.

Pretty sure that is a hks SSQ. Mine sounds just like that when I boost 15 psi or more. On low boost like 10 it just sounds like it whistles. So probably that guy is pushing 15+ psi. USDM cars are gay. I probably wouldn't have swapped if I had a 2nd gen 3sge in my celica. :slap:

What are the two lights for on the tach? Oh, and is anyone using a program to convert these .flv files to .mpg or .avi?

ssqv sounds different under high boost just like other BOVs:

But it could be a wastegate, i hear flickering, perhaps Tial?

Well I'm 100% sure my ssq sounds just like that. I remeber when I was tunning it when I hit 23psi it was that same exact sound. How much boost are you pushing lagos?

These are Economy on/off lights. Don't you guys have them in USDM Celicas? Theoretically, when the green light is on, you're saving fuel. But when it switches to orange, get ready for massive fuel consumption :).

Why?!?!? Why Do We Always Get Crap Here In The States?! Why!!!!!!!!!

The explanation I got was that the ST162 sold like shit, even though it was the fastest in its class. On the other hand, ST184 sold extremely well, even though it was the slowest in its class. Like, really slow. A Geo Storm was faster. :P

It's also more profitable to make affordable fuel efficient cars than affordable fast ones. It's why all of Toyota's good stuff is going into Lexus.

These are Economy on/off lights.

I'm 98% sure that those lights are for the TEMS system (Toyota Electronically Managed Suspension) or active suspension as its known elsewhere.
One color marks sporty (stiff) suspension and the other marks normal settings.

I say 98% because I always had known that TEMS equipped Celicas where JDM (RHD cars) but now it's funny to see that same system in a LHD car.

What transmission came with the 3SGE equipped 5th Gen Celicas?

Hmm... That would be kinda strange, because I have "Economy" written below those lights.

There's an MR2 video on AllTrac.net with the same sound. Gary posted the video ftp://alltrac:club@ftp.alltrac.net/uploads/Gary/movie/MR2wastegate.mpeg

I for one find this vid very difficult to believe. 25 - 112mph in 5 seconds? Yeah, right. Either the vid has been sped up (as bitskyline says) or it was done on a dyno. No way will that Celica accelerate that quickly. I don't care what has been done to it.

i'd dissagree... if u think about it... 10 second car has got to get it fast... so it has to be possible...

but i didn't get five seconds... i got more like 8 either way fast... no clue where 125 is on that tach... so... ??

Mph *8/5 = Kmh

He probably was on Ice. Notice how he starts to lose traction a little bit after he shifts. I did this on a dodge caravan up to 80mph!! I was actually going 25mph.

Doubt he's on ice. He's most likely losing traction because he has huge power on a FWD car with no LSD.

Lets see....burning through 3rd and 4th gear? At 225hp? I dont think so.... Just listen to the properties of the rev. It is inconsistent. At least with burning out on asphault, the revs dont sound like its about to catch, then getting really free, then sounding like its going to hookup. With the power required to burn through 3rd and fourth, it wouldnt sound like it did.

Both S52 and S53. The early models got the S52 while the later models got the S53.
