View Full Version : If You Didn't Own a Celica...

We all love our Celicas, but what if you didn't have one? What would you drive (in similar price range) if you couldn't drive your Celica?

surfergravity
12-01-2005, 02:14 AM
Good question. I have always like the Prelude.

well i love the celica, but love the supra just as much i actually wanted a supra but settled for the celi :) (they very rare here, i have only actually seen just one or two in my area all my life... and just 1 other one besides those two in my whole state

but if not that probably an eclipse or some honda

Raine

I like the Eclipse as well, I heard too many issues with reliability though.

Yes the Eclipse never really rated well with consumer reports.

I hope to god my 2nd car is going to be another GTS, but perhaps inbetween I might pick up a project 240sx, yes they are very common, but they are a blast to drive.

cosmic_sombrero
12-01-2005, 03:05 AM
I just about bought a 93 Prelude Si before I bought my Celica. It was faster, but a little spender and had higher miles.

Never a mitsu, though.

ScottGT-S
12-01-2005, 03:07 AM
integra gsr most likely

Morwan
12-01-2005, 03:09 AM
Definitely a Corolla GT-S. Either that or a 240SX is going to be my second car... FWD handles well, but I'd really like to drift. I might just get an AE86 instead of doing a swap, but ricers are gobbling all of them up.

an old Subaru Impreza... either a L or a 2.5 RS

If I had to get a new car and it couldnt be a celica it would proably be a 240SX or an mk3 (I think) supra.

KoreanJoey
12-01-2005, 03:54 AM
240SX/Z or RX7 (FC3S). One of those nice things about living pretty close to Atkins is they can't screw me over too bad because I'd just sabotage one of their planes.

All4Traction
12-01-2005, 03:56 AM
If a truck didnt hit my last car, i would have had a 93 Escort GT turbo

Other than that, i would probly have an rx7 Tll

Maybe a nice 4x4 truck ( I like the Toyota 4x4's)

Azzazzyn

12-01-2005, 04:44 AM
I like Preludes...and if not that probably and Integra or 240SX. I really like MR2's also, but i think those are a little more costly then Celicas

Slider
12-01-2005, 04:50 AM
I bought mine for real cheap so all the cars would be older.

Let's go by makes

Honda: Civic, CRX, Accord, Prelude
Nissan: Maxima(this was my last car), Sentra SE-R, 240SX, old 300Z pre 90s
Toyota: AE86 Corolla(every once in a blue moon they come up for reasonable prices), mk3 supra

Nothing reliable from the domestics catches my eye.

Edicius
12-01-2005, 05:01 AM
most likely a honda civic or accord

would love an mr2 though

Apostle
12-01-2005, 05:12 AM
I would probably buy a DSM or 240sx, but the 4g63-T's had crankwalk issues although mitsu supposedly fixxed that issue in the evo 4g63. So I would shoot for a 240sx and try to do an sr20 swap. But I just love my celica and look foward to dropping a 3sgte in it.

No hondas for me.

I want a `Rolla. Badly. And I don't know why. I also wouldn't mind a little `Yota truck like Dave's.

If I hadn't bought Chaos, I would probably still be tinkering with F-Bodies.

Honestly, with how much money I've dumped into my car, including the cost of it...

I could be rolling in a C5 vette :) So thats my answer.

12-01-2005, 01:17 PM
I'd go for either a 240sx or a 1st gen miata. I know the miatas aren't quite as practical, but ya gotta love the RWD, light-weight, 2-seater goodness :).

im kinda going through this debate right now... as I will be selling the celica pretty soon

the options that im looking most at so far are MR2 Turbo, Subaru WRX 02-04 (i love the bug eye) or an audi tt 225 coupe. Im still kinda stuck on which to go with... I think the deciding factor will be what becomes available when I go to buy my next car... I would LOVE an s4 but they arent importable into canada from the states for some reason even though we sell them here... and they are far too expensive in canada (as are used car in general)

My Celica is in pretty bad condition, but I'm using it to get back and forth from work for now. I should have the money to buy a new car within the next few months. Im tempted to buy an Eclipse, because I like the look, and its good performance for its price, but I dont necessarily want to try my luck with a used Mitsubishi. New ones are prone enough for breakdowns. :) I may just buy another Celica.

By make:

Nissan: 240SX (SR or VG swap), B13 Sentra SE-R, 1st gen Altima (SR swap)
Infiniti: Q45
Honda: Prelude VTEC, 4th gen Accord (H22A swap)
Acura: Integra 4door, Legend
Toyota: MR-2, early '90s Camry (3s swap)
Lexus: LS, SC, GS
Subaru: Impreza 2.5RS, Legacy GT
Mazda: MX-6 Turbo, Miata
Ford: early 90s 5.0 Crown Vic (do the whole Mustang 5.0 bit)

I could keep going...

I owned 4 at once here, a few years ago.
There's a few others in town. A couple of GTS, a ST or two, and several GTs.
Yes, some of them are on this board, just not very active.

If I couldnt drive the CELICA I would have a 93 Toyota Pickup... OH WAIT THAT IS WHAT I HAVE.....lol

Either way my second choice would be a 90-92 Integra

Well, I already have an Integra... but it's nothing compared to the Celica (I miss driving it :()

I would go with an MK1 MR2, CRX, Miata or Lexus SC300 (which will be my next car, I want to turbocharge the 2jz in there ;))

Definatly an mr2, wrx, or an rx. I also have always wanted to kl-ze or kl-03 swap an mx-3 and do a turbo on that.

Raine
12-06-2005, 01:27 AM
The 300z is really nice. Good condition ones go for about 12,000 around here though. BMW E36 models are going for pretty cheap, I might just buy one next year..

Acura Integra GS-R, two door in black or silver, or a newer 7th-6th gen Celica or MR-2.

I had a couple of choices before I grabbed this 5G

Toyota- 2D Tercel / MKII Supra (already had a built 6MGE ready)/ AE92 Corolla GTS
Honda- EG HB, I have a wierd issue wanting to put a 3SGTE in there
Nissan- old school' 200SX or early 90s maxima

Most days I perfer the Celica to the Supra turbo! way more reliable with the possibility of a lot of fun!

I'd like to Replace this 184 Celica with a new GTS, or a nice Impreza 2.5RS! Honestly though, for a daily driver, perhaps a new Yaris? or something like a Lupo Diesel that makes 75mpg!

Azzazzyn
12-07-2005, 03:51 AM

you'd be suprised bro. Before i got my boo, i was looking for a z32tt for the longest time, never had the money though. The part you'd be suprised about is the insurance rates for a tt to an na, not a difference in the world. I got the same price quote for either or.

Either a 95 Subaru 2.5, a Tercel, or a Mazda Millenia.

The STI is coming at the beginning of the summer, so I don't need to worry about what I would be driving without the Celica...because I love that car and will remain with me forever...mwahaha.

Oh and can't forget the classic rusted out Sonoma.

Damn stars and stripes mobiles.

I'm with you Todd - MKIV Supra. There was a white one w/Blue racing stripes for sale in Indy a couple of months ago with basic mods. Soooo nice. I was all set to buy one a year before I got the ST185 - then the Fast & Furious movie came out and the price of the Supra went up $7G over night. Oh well.

My current favs are IS250 and Mitsu Evo, though my next aquisition will probably be a late 90's Land Cruiser one the 4runner dies.
