Once the belt stops retracting, it becomes a safety issue even if you are able to fix it. I'd personally replace it.

I've worked for a Toyota dealer as a tech for over 5 years. They wouldn't even let us go into the seat belt retractor due to liability reasons. There might be a way to fix it but more than likely what has happened is the retractor spring either broke or is worn out which you would have to replace it to fix it. Toyota or any body for that matter does not offer replacement perts for the retractor (that liability thing again). I do know that if you have a slow retration concern then Toyota offers a stick on tape set....you put this tape stuff on all the high friction spots in the seat belt system to help it retract. The tape is some really smooth plastic stuff.

well thanks for the info, but all in all it doesnt stop retracting all together, it is only the last 8 inches or so, i was thinking the belt just got tangled inside or soemthing since it often does on the outside.

well it's not hard to find out. Just pull it all the way out from the retractor and see if it did indeed get folded over.

Yes they do.. I forgot how much (: I never got them from them.. I just bought used to replace mine since there was some nasty stuff on them.. I still need a replacement for the front driver tho... and is the damn driver buckle Red release button thing suppose to be down then it popups when you buckle up?

Yeah you can still get them but have your ducksin a row when you call. they'll want vin# and color code # to look it up properly.

My belt stopped retracting too. I tried taking it apart but the damn thing just fell apart when I removed the screws. I bought a used one for 5 bucks, If you go used inspect the belt closely. Any cuts or even frays reject it and keep looking. It's an easy fix.
