First Gens sell for beans (if you can find one). So I was looking at picking one up one of these days. I'm wondering is how much space is in that engine bay because I've been having this wet dream of shoving a 3UZ-FE in there and making a nice monster.

Is this a plaussible idea? Can it be done? :squint:

Edit: Sorry, meant 3UZ-FE. if that isn't possible how bout the 1UZ then? lol

People have put Chevy V8's in 'em so why not? :)

Personally I'd rather do a 2JZ with 6spd conversion and BPU+.

Woot! The Corolla looks mighty shrimpy compared to a Celica of a slightly later year so that's some good news on fitment. Such an exciting project. My goal's pretty much to build a nice muscley Toyota V8 Celica. Just a pipe dream for now, though. Thanks for the perspectives!

It's do-able :bigthumbu

But personally, I'm with mike on the 2jz w/ 6spd.

With exceptions of ones that are restored, i see a lot going for 1500 and down. A few months ago a guy sold a GT with a busted engine and trashed interior for like 450 on ebay. This OF COURSE occured when I was unemployed and to this day I cry myself to sleep.

i would personally choose a 1uz over the 2jz becuase you can buy the engine for 500 bcusk or less and build it up to be a mosnter before paying for a 2jz :)
I wouldnt mind a 5vz twin turbo in one :)

The 1UZ-FE is a torquey V8 engine with exceptional output. It was designed in the mid to late 80's completely from scratch. Originally it was a 3.5L, then 3.8, and finally late into development it was upped to 4 liters. The 1UZ was used in the Lexus LS, SC, and GS 400's.
I just did a search and found over 20 below 1000 bucks :)
