is it absolutely crusial to replace them?

Not absolutely crucial, but it helps. I kept mine when I did my suspension, however I closely inspected them before installing. Make sure the play is very limited. If it is badly corroded, you should replace.

1990 GT in a rainy environment, but it spent about five years of its life being garaged:

I replaced all four of mine, they all looked about the same.

shit if your mounts were like that after sitting in a garage i can only imagine what mine look like after being everywhere else

Note: not stored in a garage, but garaged at night.

Mine broke.

1989 4g. Drivin down a street here(under repair the street) over some uneven pavement. Heard a clunk.. and then whenever the suspension traveled, it would clunk. Passanger front broke, so it's time to replace all 4.

$50 is about average, actually, for good quality. I found cheaper, but not by much. KYB is around $50, and Dorman around $40. But that was off a site that charged for shipping rather than hiding the real cost of shipping in the price.
