Ok so i have a freind, he had a truck and crashed it. bought a 2001 base cavalier, its a manual. Im auto. hes talking trash... Thing is, hes being a dick. Says he will beat me all out/// from the beginning til end. Will i win, auto to manual? i beat a auto cav and sunfire by alot.... what do you all think? please answer, we are setting up this race real soon and i dont wanna feel like a jackass to lose..... :thumbsdow

I'll put my bet on the Cavalier. Should be close though. I've never been in an auto 5sfe so I have no idea how fast you are. To get an edge on him run him when you're at 1/4 tank of gas and remove all the shit you don't need from the trunk, spare and etc.

ill run with less thena 1/4 lol....

and yes, i would remove everything out of the car that isnt needed....

my car pulls pretty hard in the low end, but up top i always get passed... which is what we are discussing... he was getting pretty harsh with me too... and i cant stand dickheads...

heres a breif history for me. and him.

He states he can hit 90 mph in the 1/4 says hes fast... blah blah blah, he just got the car, and says that its the fastest thing alive, and how he has beat all these cars. an endless list etc... ya know, typical new car ricer guy. I rode with him one day,and he shifts really hard the tranny, and claims that its so fast, and it rolled nicely from a 25 mph roll, but off the line i doubt its any faster then my car. I learned how to launch my auto well, and it shifts really smooth the ECT option helps too kuz it helps shift in the right rpm range.

one thing i noticed tho, is that right at the end of 1/4 mile i always get passed. I raced a modded civic hatch, and it passed me right at the end, same with a modded SOHC neon. Im damn near stock, and this cavalier guy is still new with cars, he will prolly race with some gas in it still and some junk in the trunk. Hes showing to be a all out ricer.

I mentioned LSD tranny to him once, and hes like whats that a brand new celica transmission? i just laughed and walked away.....

I'd give you the race, Whyte. He sounds like he doesn't really know what he's doing...

If you had a manual, I think it'd be a sure win for you...I've never been in an auto 5S, so I don't know how it handles...

Take it out to the track and let us know what happens. Time slips if possible...or if you're going to take it to the street, keep it safe and don't do anything stupid.

I don't know how it is with the autos but with my 5spd after 60mph the acceleration suffers big time.

yeah on the street we go 5 miles out of time in a secluded region. as for time slips, i found some comparisions on the net. these are the most stock readouts i could find...

cav:
/4 Mile ET: 16.700
1/4 Mile MPH: 78.360
1/8 Mile ET: 10.620
1/8 Mile MPH: 63.870
0-60 Foot ET: 2.288
Temperature F: 44.0

Celica:
1/4 Mile ET: 16.564
1/4 Mile MPH: 81.700
1/8 Mile ET: 10.615
1/8 Mile MPH: 66.220
0-60 Foot ET: 2.509
Temperature F: 65.0

The cavalier is a very good driver, its 5 speed. The celica comparison is a 6th gen with a manual, with a apparently not so good driver. The cavalier appears to have an intake, header, exhaust, spark plugs, wires, it was colder out, and its lightened also. the celica appears to be completly stock except a gutted cat and new rims. I plan to lighten what i can when i race him, and have low gas amounts. I think i can run an 80 mph in the quarter like that 6th gen, that apparently was stock as stock can be. another thing with the 94 celica readout, it may be auto or manual it doesnt tell.

i guess ill see what luck brings to me, when we finally race....

P.S. i took an auto cav by 6 cars on the street, and i took a auto sunfire by 6 cars on the street.

heres a 90 ST readout, that is better then the 6th gen readout, the 6th gen may have been a ST who knows....

Car and driver got a 17.2 @ 79mph with the gt-s :ugh: back when it was first released and that was a 5spd.

Too many factors to compare the two cars including drivers, just go out and race him and tell us the results.

I'd shift the auto myself. That way you can take it to a good shift point. In the 1/4, once you shift to third, pop the OD button to keep your RPMs up till you want them to drop. 01 Cav is okay with a decent driver, like most cars. If it's strickly stock, the Celi should take it easy. If he is an unexperienced driver, the trans doesn't matter. Hell being manual is just on more thing for him to mess-up (missing the gear). You pull trap (around 2-2.5k to avoid a lot of slip) you should have it.

So I know when i launch i rev it up in the rpms a little bit, i let off the brake, gain speed, shift it manually at about 5.5K (max point for hp=Horsepower: 130 hp @ 5400 rpm) Then same in next gear manually, pop off the OD and cruise on is what your saying? I hope this goes smooth thanks guys....
